The Revolution on Sports Motivation for Coaches
From One-Size-Fits-All to Individualized Approaches

Steven Reiss, Ph.D.
Professor of Psychology & Psychiatry
The Ohio State University
Columbus, Ohio

Peter Boltersdorf, Head Coach
German National Team (Olympics)
European Training Academy
Coaching Consultant, Professional Teams

As reported in more than 100 newspapers and magazines throughout the world, researchers have described 16 basic motives of life. The 16 basic desires determine:

  • what motivates each athlete;

  • what each athlete will do under pressure;
  • who is a team player;
  • why a star player might be struggling and what to do about it;
  • who is prone to become overconfident;
  • who is potential trouble for the program.
  • who will perform better on game day than during practice

The Reiss Sports Profile - based on extensive research that has passed scientific peer review more than 20 times -- can provide you with critical information regarding:

  • recruiting - who is motivated; who will be difficult to coach; whistleblowers

  • motivation - the most powerful way to motivate each individual;
  • coaching - matching players to positions; team building; pep talks designed to motivate the team, not just you.

The Reiss Sports Profile, created in 2003 in Germany and published in 2005, is now in use with major league professional European teams, minor league professional European soccer teams, Division I NCAA college teams, and high schools. The sports are soccer, golf, baseball, and volleyball, but any sport is appropriate.

Steven Reiss, Ph.D., a graduate of Dartmouth College and Yale University, is a widely cited scientific research authority on motivation and anxiety. He is the recipient of four major national awards for research and humanitarian efforts. His 2000 book, Who Am I (see www.amazon.com), has been translated into 7 languages.

Peter Boltersdorf is an Olympic coach, a 17-time coach of a German national champion team, and a coaching consultant to professional European soccer teams.

You are not registered until you receive a written confirmation. Space is limited. The fee is $75 for one person, or $150 for three people from the same college. Lunch is on your own.
